I practice mindfulness more now than I ever have. I started exploring what mindfulness meant after I took clinical psychology in the Fall of my Sophomore year. When we explored what mindfulness is my professor made key point that mindfulness relies on no judgement. I took some of those class ideas and have since been trying to apply it my own life. When I get upset, or have maladaptive thoughts, I try mindfulness exercises first. I use my inner dialogue to say "ok, I feel this way because this happened" and then I think about how I feel , and I think the amazing part is, somewhere in the process of mentally identifying why you are upset...often times the impact of that has had the time to rationally process and naturally calm you down. The whole idea behind mindfulness is to separate you from whatever bad thoughts, allowing things to be real but less emotionally personal. The number one way to start trying mindfulness is by focusing on breathing and even starting with guided meditation.
